This review may contain spoiler information, so don't read it if you really want to see the best comedy movie of the summer.
Tropic Thunder is directed by Ben Stiller and co-stars Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Nick Nolte, Matthew Mcconaughey and Tom Cruise. Set in present day Vietnam, this movie tells the story of an author who wrote a book about a military operation in the Vietnam War. 5 main actors are chosen to star in the film about the book and the chaos ensues. Ben Stiller is 'The Action Guy', Robert Downey Jr. is 'The Award Winner' and Jack Black is 'The Comedian' and all of them are rounded up in this reminiscent action film. Matthew Mcconaughey plays Ben Stillers agent and Tom Cruise plays the rich guy that finances the film.
There are so many funny moments in this movie that it's hard to remember all of them. I don't find Ben Stiller all that funny and he was okay in the film. Jack Black is frickin funny as heck in the film and Robert Downey Jr's part is just funny because he plays a black man and isn't really one. The person that stole the show (for me) was Tom Cruise. I have little respect for him as a celebrity and actor. In all of the films that I have seen of his previous to this one, I've never been impressed. The role that he plays in this film completely contradicts anything that he has EVER done and it's frickin funny. IMO, it's worth whatever you have to pay to go see the movie.
