I disagree, Posted: 2 years ago
It's my understanding that Woot first came from the Arsenio Hall show. Arsenio would commonly yell Woot! woot! woot! as a cheer at the beginning of his show.

Not from "We Own the Other Team", Posted: 2 years ago
Actually that comes from counterstrike and similar games and those are very recent. The term w00t was long long before those. It was originally a hacker term as the article says.
When you get root access instead of being excited and yelling r00t!, people would say w00t!
That being said I must refer you to this post: http://www.ratemyeverything.net/post.aspx?post=1804

There is some contention on digg about the fact that Texans have been using the word w00t since before computers.

Oh, come on. This is what our educational system is pumping out?, Posted: 1 year 12 months ago
"Originally a hacker term"? You guys are off by about 700 years. Peruse this:
"Whos is that faire child, that stondeth yonder?"
"I noot," quod he, "by God and by Seint John!
A mooder he hath, but fader hath he noon,
That I of woot." ...
...
"But God woot"
From Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Think words such as "wit", "witty", "wistful", all related in some way, and all related to knowing. Getting the picture yet?
"We Own Other Team"? Gimme a break. Arsenio? PLEASE! I'm dyin here, dyin of laughter. No one knows for sure? Practically no American under the age of 30 does, at least, unless they went to school overseas and got a decent education. Originally a hacker term? "Root Access"? C'Mon, even hackers are older than 5 years old and can pronounce their R's.
I'd be about to get religion, but the truth just keeps intervening.
Know! You been pwned.
