By far one of the best reporters in the game of baseball.
Shannon Drayer has been with the Seattle Mariners for many years now. Originally introduced to baseball by her father who was a die hard Red Sox fan. Shannon eventually developed into a die hard Cub's fan, and eventually turned her love for baseball into a carrier.
Over her time with the Mariners she has been a part of a few "signiture series", including her staple "Beyond the Baselines", which features Mariner players, highlighting their lives outside of baseball and giving us a better glimpse of the person, rather than the baseball player.
She also pretty well makes the post game show, which features a cast of Tom or Matt, and then a color comentator.
The post game show used to feature Mike Blowers who was a great compliment to Shannon Drayer on the show, making it in my opinion the best post game show in baseball.
However Shannon is the star of the show (even if Matt tends to like to make himself the star of the show. He loves the sound of his voice, but I suppose he is the host, so what are you going to do).
Hopefully we'll see Shannon for many many years to come as THE Mariners premier reporter.
Shannon Drayer originally started covering the Mariners on a very part time basis in 1998. She started covering the team on a more steady basis in 2001 and was hired by KOMO to cover the team full time in 2003. This was a particularly significant thing because KOMO required that the Mariners allow her to travel with the team, so that she gets to spend more time with the team than any other reporter.
Despite the fact that Shannon always dreamed of being a sports journalist, she did not study that in college, as she never dreamed she would actually someday be able to do it. Instead she studied Psychology and Drama at the University of Washington.
Upon graduating she realized that her degree didn't prepare her for pretty much any job out there, so took a job at Starbucks for the benefits and the schedule felxibility.
While there she enjoyed making coffee and talking sports with customers. At a certain point a customer told her about a contest KJR was having, "Sports Hack Wanna Be". Basically if you thought you could do their job better than them, you could send in a tape.
Her tape was selected and she got an on air audition and was offered a job later that day.
She then started doing updates for John Clayton and worked her way up to covering teams, and the rest is history.
*UPDATE* Shannon Drayer now works for 710 KIRO doing pretty much the same job she did while the Mariners with with KOMO 1000. She's still as good as ever and hopefully we will get to hear her for many many years to come.

She may be short, but that 5 foot (maybe) frame houses a fantastic reporter, the consemate baseball fan, a great baseball mind, and a really nice person.
Am I the only one who thinks she should think about doing play-by-play someday?
