The Alexa Toolbar is a free search and navigation companion that accompanies you as you surf, providing useful information about the sites you visit without interrupting your Web browsing.

-Get rid of those annoying popup ads

-Search the Web and other resources directly from your toolbar.

-Learn about Web sites including traffic information and contact info.

-Surf more efficiently with Related Links for each page.

-Share opinions about sites with other users.

-search the web using the Alexa search engine.

-use the WayBack machine integrated with the Alexa toolbar to see any website or webpage as it was in the past (select a date!)

Alexa's Toolbar works on both Firefox and Internet Explorer.

My Review:

I started using the alexa toolbar primarily because I'm slightly obsessed with different website's traffic rankings. I normally don't like to have toolbars in my browser because they tend to clutter things up. In that respect Alexa does a great job of staying "out of the way" in Firefox and an ok job in IE. They also don't include any annoying adware or anything like that, like a lot of toolbar's try to do. They just give you the toolbar with no extra software, which is a plus.

In firefox a mini alexa toolbar ends up getting put in the lower right hand corner of the window. In IE it is put in the traditional top bar.

My two favorite features of the alexa toolbar are the number ranking of sites and the integrated "Way Back" machine button.

In regards to the alexa toolbar number ranking, this is a pretty good way to determine if a site is really "good". Basically anything under 100,000 is considered to be a good solid site. Anything under 50,000 is an extremely popular site. Anything under 10,000 is "tops". Anything under 10 likely starts and ends with google, yahoo, or microsoft.

The Way Back machine button allows you to auto-transfer yourself to the WayBack machine website and view a version of the page you were just viewing over the page's entire lifespan. This is a fantastic tool, if you've never used it. See more about this at http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

So overall I'd say if you are a bit of a stats junky or just want to know what the world thinks of the site you are currently using, I'd recommend installing the alexa toolbar.

Oh and if you are a webmaster or work in a web related field the alexa toolbar is pretty well essential.
