The Core is a new line of wrist computers from Suunto. The Core series provides their wearers with an altimeter, barometer, compass, depth measurement and of course a watch to tell time.

The watch itself is fairly easy to understand with all of these settings available to you. The menu is very easy to navigate once you get to it (hold the middle right button down) and the options once you get in the menu are awesome.

The Core series records your altitude in a log with it's built in altimeter. You can access the log when you are done hiking (or flying!) and see statistics on your highest altitude, rate of ascent, and total time. The altimeter works by constantly measuring absolute air pressure.

You can set dual time zones on the watch to keep track while you're away from home. A stopwatch and timer are also available for use on the watch.

One of the cooler features is the sunrise/sunset setting on the watch. One of the display options while in time mode is sunrise/sunset. This is a very nice setting for hiking and can be adjusted based on time zone and latitude.

One of the best features is the storm warning alarm in altimeter/barometer mode. The altimeter is constantly measuring the absolute air pressure and gives a weather indicator to show you what weather pattern is most likely to occur; sun or rain. A rising indicator is a sign of good weather. The storm alarm is activated for 20 seconds when a significant decrease in barometric pressure is sensed.

The compass is the other cool feature in the Core series. Once the compass is setup ( a quick 15 second process), you can use the bezel to point to a hiking point or you can set a bearing on the digital compass to guide you in a specific direction.

Besides having a great look, these watches are very functional and easy to use.

After having the watch for a full day and giving it a chance...I've discovered something that I don't like!  The temperature reading gets thrown off by my body temperature.  It's somewhere in between my body temp and the air temp around me.  I'd like one or the other, preferably the air temperature around me.
